A shader determines how a texture will look. You cannot stop Unity from putting all images used in keyframes in the RAM because Unity have already scans them. The texture and texture2D need to be the same size. Do not have needless meshes. If the data is not a valid image, the generated texture will be a small image of a question mark. I have a SDL_Renderer in SDL2 that I use both to render textures on screen and to render textures on textures, my problem is that when I render to texture the renderer may have some content in it which needs to be drawn, but if it's empty and I call SDL_RenderPresent() on it the screen flickers.
